I'm Tiffany Scribner, multidisciplinary artist of The Wild Blue Bear; I'm a painter, a rockhound, a lapidarist, occasional goldsmith, and all around artistic adventurer. Authentic creativity, perceptive connection, and transcendent love are at the heart of who I am and what I do. I care about beauty, people and compassion, and dream of a world where my art connects people and promotes joy, peace, and love. I believe in kindness and hope, love and laughter, adventures and spontaneity, storytelling and vulnerability, standing up for yourself and for others.
Possessed of an avid hunger for learning new mediums & techniques, my first art language is paint, but I often work in other forms, such as writing, stone and silver. I've been cutting stones for more than 5 years, and smithing for about as long. I've had a paintbrush in my hand longer than any other implement. No matter the medium, I love seeing the beauty that nature offers in all her wonders. My work is informed by a Master's Degree in Scenic Design and Painting for Theatre, and over fifteen years of efforts in the field. I'm fascinated by the color spectrum, and love working in vibrant, specific and expansive palettes.
It is my belief that it is the job of the artist to create with authenticity and passion; to provide a pathway for empathy and catharsis; to find and push boundaries; to ask "Why?" and to not accept a poor answer; to know the world and create a new one. I hope my work does a small bit of this for those who engage with it. I try to use my powers (and privilege) for good and not for evil. I think most people need more hugs, and a lot more empathy.
I call the beautiful PNW my home, living on Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound. I haven't always lived here, but it's stolen my heart! When I am not working on my artistic endeavors, I can be found spending time with the beautiful humans in my life and supporting other artists. I love feeding a crowd, learning everything I can, reading avidly, consuming new music voraciously, dancing to it, and walking the beaches hoping for a whale sighting or a good rock. I spend summers fishing and spring and fall mushroom hunting, and I'm always thrifting. I have an incredible partner, and two ridiculous cats, and some of the best friends on the planet. If you have found your way here, I would love to connect with you!
Borrowing techniques from theatrical painting, graphic design, watercolor, and trompe l’œil, I create rhythmic, hopeful, and exuberant multimedia paintings. Through layered application of acrylic paint, art markers, colored pencil, and metallic embellishments, I explore geometric patterns, manipulation of scale, hue, and gradient. All of my painted work features vibrant but controlled palettes with imagery that stretches towards the fantastic.
My playful, simple illustrations are distillations of my cutest imaginations. You’ll find numerous ants in my work: a symbol of community, strength and perseverance in the face of encroaching darkness. My landscapes and meditations on the natural world are small moments of memory and gratitude for the PNW. My jewelry is meant to be worn with heart, and my cabochons are celebrations of the natural beauty of the world. Never one to strictly adhere to a single discipline, you'll also find block prints and occasional other forms of artwork here.
My work is a reminder to smile, to laugh, to view the world more softly, more clearly, with greater empathy, to search for the light. I hope here you will find the comfort, hope and connection that the darkness in our world so often tries to snuff out.
